Our Destin campus, acquired in September 2023, is the newest and most expansive addition to the Stepping Stones Early Learning Academy family. With a licensed capacity of 200 children and 13 thoughtfully designed classrooms, this state-of-the-art facility allows us to extend our mission of faith-based early childhood education to families on the south side of Choctawhatchee Bay.
This location carries a legacy of excellence, having operated for over 20 years as the Roane School, founded by Hampton Roane and Tracy Roane of Atlanta, Georgia. Their gracious decision to entrust Stepping Stones with this beloved campus has allowed us to continue serving the Destin community with the same heart and commitment that defined the Roane School for decades.
The Destin campus offers a full range of programs—from our nurturing Infant Room to our dynamic Butterfly VPK Program—all grounded in Christian values and developmental best practices. Children benefit from a rich learning environment that includes:

Miss Shelby Gautreau is a valued addition to the Stepping Stones Early Learning Academy family, bringing with her a wealth of experience in early childhood education, business leadership, and motherhood. Her diverse background uniquely equips her to lead with both professional excellence and heartfelt compassion.
With years of experience serving as an Early Childhood Education Director, Miss Shelby has developed a strong foundation in fostering high-quality learning environments, supporting staff growth, and building meaningful relationships with families. Her time in the business world further enhances her leadership, allowing her to approach operations with organization, vision, and a commitment to excellence.
As a mom herself, Miss Shelby deeply understands the trust families place in our care. She approaches her role with empathy, intentionality, and a genuine passion for creating a safe, nurturing, and enriching environment for every child.
As Center Director, Miss Shelby oversees daily operations, mentors her team, and ensures that each classroom reflects our commitment to faith-based early childhood education. Her leadership is characterized by warmth, professionalism, and purpose—helping to cultivate a center where children grow, families feel supported, and staff are empowered to thrive.
